About me

I have been practicing yoga since November 2014. I started at Bikram Arnhem and continued at Affordable Yoga with Louise Cutler in Paris and RYoga in Rome. To deepen my practice and because I wanted to make yoga more accessible I have followed the hatha yoga teacher training at Samyak yoga (RYS-200) (* in Mysore (India) in November 2016. It is beautiful to see how people soften and relax during the practice. It makes me happy to be part of it.

How do I teach

I have a dynamic supportive style of teaching with a lot of assists and adjustments. Although my training was focused on hatha yoga, I’ll be able to make the style more gentle or more dynamic. I give a lot of attention to the breath, focus and grounding and never loose the goals of yoga, but in general my classes are rather down to earth instead of spiritual. Nevertheless, the focus at the end is on relaxation.

“I’ve fallen in love with yoga since my first lesson and without any doubt I have to thank René for this. His gentle way, his smiles and his sense of humour made me feel comfortable. I think his greatest gift is the ability to highlight the bond between yoga and life. In the practice with Rene, yoga doesn’t seem to be dusty and untouchable but something useful, alive and tangible. After his lesson I experienced beautiful moments of relaxation and tranquility.” – Guiseppe S.

My experience

My yoga training has a strong focus on teaching, so it gave me a good basis. Sincethen, I have taught various private classes to friends and as a replacement at a hostel in Pai. I also shared the joy of yoga on a campsite in Italy with guests and colleagues. I take every chance to develop myself in the wonderful world of sharing the joy of yoga.

More than yoga

My study on the field of quality management taught me how to maximisetheproduct or service quality. This enabled me to give the best possible in my work in hospitality and tourism to guests which resulted in various awards. I’m also experienced in making websites and social media. I will be happy give support and assistance in your activities by using these experiences besides teaching yoga.

“In January 2017 René stayed at our hotel. Besides teaching some private yoga sessions, we had the pleasure of having his assistance in the field of social media. He also looked with us to the guest experience in our hotel. This resulted in a systematic approach in our social media management and various (future) improvements in our hotel and restaurant. With his background, creativity and knowledge René is able to get to the point quickly and be the perfect sparring partner.” – Hotelowner in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Good to know

I can teach in English and Dutch. I speak Italian and French at B2 / C1 level, so soon I will be able to teach in these languages as well. I have basic notions of German (B1) and Spanish (A1). I have the Dutch nationality and might need (assistance to get) a (work) permit/visa outside the European Union.

My yoga story

I started late with yoga. Too late. The DVD of Yoga for Dummies has been an endless time on the shelve. Sometimes I watched YouTube videos of Tara Stiles and I even did a yoga class some years ago on a campsite with Chiara, a lovely but I think not really trained teacher. I’ve the idea that after four adjustments she gave up. All my life I have dealt with stress issues; I wish that I started earlier, but everything in life needs its process.

The change

I was restless after spending and working a summer in Rome, Italy. Suddenly I heard a little voice: “And *now* you’re going to the yoga studio which you pass often”. So I started in November 2014 ago with Bikram Yoga in Arnhem, in Arnhem, the Netherlands to come back on earth. After the first time it was like I was on a high. Maybe one of the best moments of my life. I knew that my life had changed.

In January 2015 I moved (back) to France and continued yoga with the wonderful teachers of Affordable Yoga in Paris to keep destressed.

It helped me a lot. Besides being physically so much more flexible and strong, I’ve stopped eating meat and for the first time in my life the words “stress resistance” are missing in my work evaluation. My attention span increased, I remember that I had to count money in batches of 20 coins. Now I can count endlessly 🙂 On all areas there is more that I can let go and accept. I’ve learnt so much on my mat!

Another new life

After being inspired by a lady who started a new life in Nepal, I’ve quit my job again and in April 2016 I went back to wonderful Rome working at a campsite and doing yoga at Ryoga..

In November I followed a 200 hours yoga teacher training in Mysore, India at Samyak YogaYepYoga quotes collection is a nice representation of how I see life.

The dream

The ultimate dream is combining work in tourism with being a yoga- and digital nomad. The masterplan and desire is to make a difference in the life of others and maybe the world. May be something with kids or leisure (camping’s, animation, hotels). Or both of course.
